What can I use to clean the make up brush I use for foundation?

You can choose to purchase makeup bruch removers but I find that baby shampoo, as already previously mentioned, works very well; it is gentle enough to use on the bristles of your brush with no harsh chemical fillers, but is strong enough to remove the bacterial residue from your brush.

And also remember, the way you clean your brush is just as important as what you clean it with. Here are some key steps:

**Using lukewarm water, run your foundation brush under the tap with the bristles pointing in a slanted DOWNWARD fashion. Do not let the bristles point up under the water as this will damage them and cause the glue at the base to loosen.

**After the bristles are wet, squirt a small dollop of baby shampoo into the palm of your hand and dip your brush into the shampoo and gently stroke it through several times. Act as if you were dipping the brush into foundation, using the same gentle motion that you would use to apply it to your face. Do not SWIRL the brush as this will change the shape of your bristles, and instead ';stroke'; it through.

**Next, rinse it off under the lukewarm tap water and lay it dry on a clean piece of paper towel. Do not ever let it dry upright as this will cause the bristles to become loose.

M.A.C has these brush cleaners that work really well don't just use soap it leaves all the bacteria still thats why you need to buy brush cleaners.
i wash all of my make up brushes with a gentle soap and water every few weeks.
I USE BABY WIPES AND/OR BABY WASH.

AFTERWARDS I APPLY ANTIBACTERIAL SANTIZER TO IT...SO I KNOW ALL THE BACTERIA IS OUT.

i have lancome foundation and their brush and i use their makup remover, they are wonderfull soap and water mix with oils in foundation an will not get the brush as clean! use a makeup remover, it will work to clean the brush alot better!

You can use some astringent. Go to walmart and buy some pure astringent and let your brushes soak overnight and then rinse thenm thouroughly. If u wanna just be simple soak them in boiled water and then rinse

This is the best: Dial Anti-Bacterial Hand Soap (its Orange). This is a very mild soap and it kills all the bacteria, unlike shampoo and vinegar etc. Work the soap into your brush for 20 seconds or so and rinse out with warm water, then do a shot of cold water to make the bristles of the brush lay flat (if real hair in brush, otherwise skip this step if its synthetic).

Lastly, make sure you only use a small dot of soap this way you are able to rinse it all out. If soap residue is left on the brush, it can cause breakouts when used on the face.

U Can mix 2 parts water and 1 part vinegar, then dip your brushes in the mixtures and rinse clean in warm water.This will clean and disinfect the brushes.Then let them air dry.

I'm not a makeup artist but here's what I recommend.

The foundation brush- Using your fingers spread bacteria all over your face. Eww.

The bronzer brush- This will work for bronzer and blush, but if you want a seperate blush brush, get it.

The all over shadow small brush (in eyes)- I find that eye brushes tend to be better for concealer, and again you need a brush because of the bacteria thing =]

The angled blush brush- You need this for highlighting.

For starters, I recommend you buy the MAC Heirloom Face Brush Set.. you can find those at any MAC counters in your department store. If you have a CCO (cosmestic company outlet near you, you'll find them for a cheaper price). That will provide you with the basic brushes-- contour/=r/blush/bronzer (168), powder (187), concealer (194), and 190 (foundation). Also, look into the 109 MAC brush too... that will give you the airbrush look :)

Okayy well when you are buying makeup brushes they don't really specify on the hair used in the brush sooo it's really a guess.

But If you do manage to find brushes with labels , I would go for the Horse hair .. depending on the brush you want. Sometimes reall hair makes brushes too soft and makes you lose controll with your makeup .

theres a big difference between synthetic and real hair brushes . The synthetic ones are plasticy feeling and chalk on makeup so you;ll know the difference between the brushes when you feel them . The real ones feel really soft but their bristles tend to fall out alot which after time makes them not ask good.

QUO has a good line of brushes using real hair.

If you really want to pro makeup then you should invest in pro brushes. Brushes can last many, many years if taken care of properly. I suggest you invest in some good ones and take care of them VERSUS buying cheap ones that will fall apart and not apply your makeup as well ... and that you will have to replace all the time. The amount of money you spend on replacing would pay for your one nice set of pro brushes.

I suggest MAC brushes all the way. They are amazing and hand made... and last a long time! They also make a huge difference in apply your makeup and the look you achieve.

Just start with a few at a time until you have the collection you want built!

I recommend MAC 224, 219, 233 for your eyes

You can buy a set from Sephora (but their brush sets can run up and the decently priced ones are usually sold out) or you can get Sonia Kashuk's brushes from Target.

Her brushes are normally VERY expensive but she's one of those designers who've jumped on the TARGET bandwagon and started selling reasonably priced products through them. I bought an 8 or 9 brush set of hers from them for under $20 dollars.

MAC has really awesome brushes, but they're kinda expensive.Which make up brush should I use?
While MAC brushes are nice, they can be very expensive. I would recommend you check into Essence of Beauty brushes at your local drugstore, Sonia Kashuk brushes at Target or even the Taklon brushes at craft stores. Taklon and synthentic are best for creamy products (like concealer). You don't need to spend a fortune for a professional quality makeup brush.

Best one is the Sonia Kashuk one from Target. Is similar to the MAC 190 brush (my favorite) - costs less. SK also has a pack of sponges that are a bit sturdier than others. Dampen the sponge before you apply either a cream or liquid foundation, blend, blend. Wash it out thoroughly, let dry.

The triangle sponges breed more bacteria, are much harder to clean, so just toss them after each use.
The MAC brushes are nice- their stippling brush (the duo brush) is nice for a light, natural looking application. Sephora has a similar one and the foundation brush in their Prestige brush set is perfect for a nice even, seamless application. I learned my lesson about cheap brushes last year, they apply splotchily and they shed and irritate the skin...once you use a quality brush you'll never go back!
If you are going to buy a brush , might as well be a good one ..... Mac does have awesome brushes. Make sure you wash your brush about once a month. Bacteria will build up and can cause breakouts. Plain baby shampoo or a specific brush cleaner will do the trick .If you take care of your brushes , they should last you atleast 10 years . I am on the journey right now of replacing mine and its been about 10 years .Also , make sure the quality is comparative to the cost.. Most of the makeup i buy already comes with an applicator. Can't i still get a decent look using the applicators? How much does the applicator i use affect my makeup dramatically? i mean for everyday use it's fine not to use every single brush such as a lip brush, contour brush, foundation brush, eyeliner brush etc.

i think a blush brush, and a blending brush[to blend eyeshadow] are the most important in my opinion!

YES for sure MAC is a really great brand to get makeup brushes from but they are expensive my favorite MAC alternative is Sigma brushes they are high quality and not to expensive i think a set of twelve is like $65 but that's a good deal considering some singular MAC brushes cost that.
I know exactly what u mean. I still feel the same way. I hate it when makeup comes with an eyehshadow applicator and when you watch a makeup video the makeup artist themselves doen't even use the same brushes that comes with the applicator. To be honest the makeup aplicator you use does affect the way your mkaeup comes out.
Yes, especially with the blush brushes that sometimes come with blush. Using a big fluffy brush will make it look more natural and not as streaky.

You should clean your brushes on a regular basis, at least every 3 to 5 months depending on how often you use them. Since many bristles are made up of hair, it makes sense to use a gentle soap or shampoo to clean them. In warm water, dip the brush tip in to wet it down. Then, place your cleanser in your hand and wipe the wet brush over your palm, gently working soap through the bristles. Swirl the brush tip through the water and gently dry the bristles using a towel and reshape as needed. Allow the brush to finish drying before using.

I clean mine in hot soapy water and use liquid dish soap to cut through the oils....wash them well and then rinse well in hot water then cold....dry brushes and then hold by the handle and give a good shake to get the trapped water out....then stand brushes in a cup to dry....when fully dried shake them again and brush with your hand to fluff
I wash my Brushes as often as i can. Usually after every use but its not very reccomended to wash them vigorously. Use a Conditioning shampoo. or A mild shampoo and put JUST A DAP of conditioner.. It works wonders and makes your makeup brush SUPER soft and clean ^-^

im not a big ';wash my makeup brushes everyday!!'; kind of girl. every two weeks or so i just use my shampoo and conditioner(it's a redken cleansing thing i use for swim season) and wash them just like i wash my hair. i should prolly clean them now =)

ok firstly they have to be real hair not synthetic

you line up 3 saucers one with some shampoo, one with conditioner and one with a few drops of tea tree oil and boiling water near a sink.

you then wet the first brush use some shampoo and gently clean it and rinse the shampoo off.

repeat untill the brush is completley clean. this removes the makeup

then dip it in the boiling water and tea tree oil mix. this disinfects the brushes and kills the germs from peoples faces that are on it

you then rince them under water again to get rid of the mix.

and lastly gently condition the brushes with the conditioner and rince all residue off.

leave them to dry on a rolled up towel. preferably outside in the sun

I have a bunch of brushes and I clean them. For quick cleaning I use a spray on brush cleaner, but that's only if I have to do makeup again quickly like between clients, then when I get home I wash them with baby shampoo, re-shape all the hairs, then let them dry. Hope that helped! Good luck!
There are several products available at cosmetic counters in department stores (usually ';better'; department stores) that are used expressly for cleaning makeup brushes.
Look - the branded brush cleaners are a rip off.

Just wash thoroughly in warm, soapy water and dry them well. They are fine and work just as well as any special stuff.

This is a fan brush and really useful for sweeping away fallen powder from under your eyes.

A foundation brush is pretty fat and is normally taklon (ie. synthetic). Powder brushes are generally hair.

You can also use for applying powder such as bronzer or highlighter. As it is wider, it stops you from applying too heavily in one place so you don't get a stripy effect.

Someone recommended this site to me the brushes are very similar to Mac brushes but alot cheaper and its in the UK so you wont have to wait for weeks for your items http://www.crownbrush.co.uk/index.html Ebay is also an option but I would check out crown brush before ebay because they have all the brushes in names and descriptions and you will save on postage when you buy from the 1 place instead having to shop around on ebay..... And usually moose foundation is applied with the fingers or any wedge sponge that you can buy from most places in a pack like superdrug or boots or even the supermarket sometimes and they can just be cheap ones, sometimes its a good idea to make them abit damp before using them and that will give you an easier smoother coverage ...... I did a make-up course last year and needed to get all this stuff so I hope I can help you out =D

I got my set from Amazon (the link is below) and it came with all the brushes you have mentioned with 2 added extras. It only costs 拢28.98 which is great value compared to Bobbi Brown and MAC which can go over 拢100!!!

I use moose foundation all the time =D I use my fingers to apply it as it gives better coverage. If you use brushes or sponges they end up tramping most of the product giving you an uneven coverage.

If your brushes have plastic handles you can ignore this addt'l bit of advice;

If your brushes have wood handles-don't submerge the metal (part that holds the bristles to the handle) in water-**ever**

if water seeps under the metal part it will soak into the wood and sit there. It takes forever for it to dry, and wood and water don't mix. The wood will swell when it gets wet, causing the metal band to stretch, so when the wood does dry the metal will be loose and you'll lose bristles. Also, wet wood is a fantastic place for bacteria.

When cleaning your brushes, be gentle with natural fiber hairs, they can bruise and bend permanently. Don't scrub or squeeze too hard-you'll break these fragile fibers.
i use shampoo and conditioner on my makeup brushes. hold the brushes with the hair down and make sure they are positioned that way so the water doesn't go into the ferrule (the part that's connected to the handle). put a smidgen of shampoo on your palm and wash the brush ends like you would your hair. rinse. put a bit of conditioner, rinse again. dry your brushes horizontally on a towel.

As a makeup artist, I wash my brushes often. MAC has a great brush cleanser that you just basically pour onto a paper towel and swirl the brush bristles in it to clean off makeup. I like it because it dries in like 15 minutes. I also like to use a brush cleanser form cinema secrets (cinemasecrets.com) I use that one once or twice a month. I just pour it in an empty baby food jar or something, and then dip each brush in it and then wipe it on a paper towel. It majorly cleans %26amp; conditions bristles and keeps your brushes lasting FOREVER. These are the quickest ways to clean your brushes, I used to wash them with shampoo %26amp; water, but that takes a long time, and takes longer to dry.
You should clean your brushes on a regular basis, at least every 3 to 5 months depending on how often you use them. Since many bristles are made up of hair, it makes sense to use a gentle soap or shampoo to clean them. In warm water, dip the brush tip in to wet it down. Then, place your cleanser in your hand and wipe the wet brush over your palm, gently working soap through the bristles. Swirl the brush tip through the water and gently dry the bristles using a towel and reshape as needed. Allow the brush to finish drying before using.

Makeup artist Tricia Sawyer did a great video about caring for your brushes..I'll link below! They can pretty much last forever if you take care of them.
Use either dish soap or an antibacterial hand soap, and gently lather the brushes using the soap and warm water.

Rinse well. Repeat the lathering if your rinse still shows makeup coming out of the brushes.

Use a clean dry towel to press into the brush repeatedly, getting excess moisture out.

Leave brushes to dry in a well-ventilated area sitting on top of a dry towel overnight. Kind of flatten the brush bristles a little bit when you leave them to dry so that excess moisture doesn't get trapped within the bristles and cause mold or bacteria to grow.

I have acne prone skin with scars that I'm trying to cover up with make up. I bought bare escentuals and the brushes made me brake out even more. are there any brushes that are softer that wont cause me any more break outs? I've tried MAC brushes and they too made me break out.

The break outs came after I used the brushes two times, I dont think I have to clean the brushes everytime I used them, Unless I'm wrong? Perhaps start wearing makeup that doesn't need a brush. I say just apply everything with your fingers, I have sensitive skin too, but my skin doesn't react to itself thankfully. Freshly cleaned hands will help if you are worried about germ build-up and be easier than endless brush cleaning, cheaper too. Also trying other makeup types might change how your skin reacts. Lancome has extremely soft brushes, they're really great; but I believe they're quite expensive. If you don't mind making an investment in make up brushes, I would recommend Lancome. Also, make sure it actually is the make up brushes that are making you break out, and if you're sure, you should invest in a good brush cleanser - and wash the brushes about twice a month, if you're using them frequently. You either have really sensitive skin or you are not cleaning them enough or properly. I suggest using a sponge applicator..You can get a pack from t e dollar store and dispose after each use. Sponges carry bacteria, so I do not reccommend re-using the same makeup sponge over and over again.

I have not tried it but it might solve your problem since there are no brushes at all.
I bought a set of camel hair brushes from Ebay that are very soft, and apply makeup evenly and lightly. The benefit from buying brushes that are REAL HAIR is that they aren't scratchy and plasticy, and they won't cake makeup on. They're also a better deal to buy in a set than individually at places like Target where they're about 6 dollars a brush. I LOVE my brushes and I use them every day.

The other thing may be the product and not the blush. If you're using too much makeup, or oily concealer, it's likely that that's what's making you break out. Maybe try Physician's Formula foundation %26amp; concealer instead?

Hi I have just bought some make up brushes and a foundation brush too.

But as the foundtion brush is coverd in foundation I clean it after I have used it with a fragrance free baby wipe so it doesnt get all over my stuff, as I keep my make up in a big vanity case. that only thing is I want to keep them clean as possible including all my other make up brushes, as usually they come with the make up compact like eye shadows so they are safe in the pot they came in, but I think its a little unhygienice to just used them and put them in loose.

Do you have a seperate bag for them or can you get something to put them in. I know I got an eyeliner brush from avon and that was in a plastic case so I can reuse it, but all the rest came in plastic packets as I got them from another shop lol.

My make-up brushes all come in a bag which rolls open- I bought one of these when doing a beauty course at the London College of Fashion. It's been extremely useful. I usually put a cloth underneath all my brushes after I've used them and always make sure I wash my brushes to keep them clean - about every two weeks. As these are really expensive brushes, they have to be washed and dried in a particular way.

I keep my foundation separate from my other make-up on my desk. I have a small red revlon bag which I got for my birthday recently which I use to store my concealer, eyeliner, compact mirror, eyelash curler, mascara, etc.

Like you, I also have a plastic case for any other brush I have which I have kept and used- it's proven very handy!

Everything is kept in one place so it makes it easier putting on make-up in the morning especially if I'm in a rush.

The other bits and bobs which I can't fit in my bag I leave on my desk. I really should get around to throwing away any old make-up I don't use and maybe splash out on some new colours. I might even get a vanity case for Xmas...How do you store make up brushes when your finished with them ?

I keep all my brushes seperate from my make-up and make sure that I clean them regularly with soapy water to kill the bacteria and stuff on them. Make sure you are cleaning the place you put them as well otherwise there's not point in cleaning them since stuff will get in there too,

You should more thoroughly wash your brushes with either a mild face wash or shampoo or a commercial brush cleaner. When they are wet you should reshape them and dry them flat so that the bristles do not become misshaped. You can store them in a cup or flat in a box or basket. They need to be able to air out. Over time storing in a cup can cause the bristles to fan out more, distorting the shape of your brush. Take care wear you store the cup as well. It the seat is up when you flush the toilet, it is crazy how far bacteria flies. So store it far from the toilet (same for toothbrushes).

The easiest thing to do is to purchase a makeup brush cleaner. They come in a spray bottle and you can find them at Walgreens or Walmart.

All you do is spray the brush with the cleanser, allow it to sit for a while, and then rinse.

Also, yes, you can use the same brush for different eyshadow colors. Just wipe the brush on a paper towel or your hand before dipping into the next color. The brush will not tranfer color to the next eyeshadow being used.

Yes you can wipe the color and use a new one. i wouldn't buy 10 brushes to apply every color. you can use one over and over again. don't forget to spot clean between uses.

the difference between spot clean and deep clean:

Spot clean is when you put a small amount on the brush or the paper towel and wipe it until its clean.

Deep clean is when you wet the brush down and apply the cleanser until it foams up and wash it clean. Let it dry laying down. NEVER STAND THEM UP when wet.
for a light cleansing just use baby wipes but for deep cleaning you can use a gentle hand soap or face wash. Just swirl it around on your had to clean it and roll a towel up so there's an incline and put the handle at the top of the incline and the bristles are at the flat part that will prevent water from messing up the glue when it dries you dont have to use a seperate brush for each color unless the color is intense if i use black then white i just wipe it with a baby wipe
Deep clean them at least once a week by wetting them with water and massage a gentle shampoo into them, then rinse. I use Head and Shoulders for the brushes. But anything will really work, just don't use something really heavy.

Dusting it off is good enough during the week. I actually have a spray from Sephora called Daily Brush Cleaner. I just spray it on the brush and then wipe it with a kleenex. It dries pretty much instantly. You don't have to use a separate brush for each color...people just do that so the colors don't mix. Just wipe it off good and you should be fine.
well for properly cleaning i recommend warm/hot water with soap and make sure the soap is washed off, ive just used water before and didnt get half as much when i used soap! it was amazing how much come of lol

yea thats okay for eyeshadow. I think its more like blush and powder brushes, cause they can clog pores more. i suppose if you do that everyday then it might be okay but for a good wash i would use warm/hot water with abit of soap

What I do is I ';spot'; clean them by wiping them on a towel, but once a week, I use baby shampoo and wash them in the sink with warm water - you could also use a brush cleaner, but I perfer baby shampoo because it's more gentle %26amp; much cheaper!
You need to get some of your facial cleanser, the put a little dime size of it in your hand, get the brush wet, then swirl the brush around in your hand using a circular motion then rinse.
fill the sink with lukewarm water, and add soap (or buy brush cleaner at sephora). swish it around and leave it out to dry, dont dry it with papertowels or whatever. do this once a week to make them last :)
I use a homemade brush cleanser to clean my brushes. If you're using eyeshadow brushes for more than one color, try this: Say like you want to use brown and gold shadows for a look. You'll use one side of your brush for the brown, and then flip it over and use the other side for the gold. If you really wanted to, you could wipe them off between colors, but know that you'll get a cleaner application if you only use 1-2 shadows per brush. You kind of don't want to wash your brushes when you're actually using them, because using wet brushes with eyeshadow will give you a totally different look. If you wear lots of different kinds of eyeshadow, it's a pretty good idea to stock up on different kinds of eyeshadow brushes. These ones from Coastal Scents are my favorites, because they're dirt cheap and pack on shadow quite well:

Oh, also, if you are currently using liquid foundation with a brush, you need to clean your liquid foundation brush every day. Otherwise, the leftover foundation in your brush becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, which you'll end up smearing all over your face the next day if you don't wash your brush. Kind of gross, right?

Advice on make-up brushes....?

Do people use make up brushes? Or you a finger kind of girl? If you use brushes... which ones? What brands? etc.

I'm wanting to find some good make up brushes and unsure where to start.. I don't want to pay for prices of Mac and Bobbi Brown... but willing to part with a little more than normal for a good product. I currently use No.7 and Ruby and Millie... there okay but not a very wide range. The No.7 on has about 5 brushes to their range.

So girls/guys... what do you use and why? Where did you get them from?

I am in the UK, so please don't tell me about a product you have in OZ or the States that I can't get my hands on, I would be grateful for the suggestions, but it's a bit far to travel just to pick up some make up brushes.

once you start getting into makeup application you'll realize how much better your makeup is applied with a brush.

its better for your skin (as long as you clean your brushes regularly) because your fingers have got oils on it.

by using your fingers esp around your eyes you pull on the skin which will give you wrinkles ALOT faster. if you do have to use your fingers around your eyes (the only time i ever use my fingers is around the eyes for concealer) use your ring finger because it pulls the least on the skin.

in the end...it looks alot better.

go to your local crafts store and you can find great paint brushes that will work great for your makeup. don't ever buy brushes in sets where you can't touch the brushes. you've got to be able to feel them so you can make sure they're quality bristles and that the brush has the stiffness you need (depending on what type of brush you're looking for).

i use mostly MAC brushes. i've gotten alot of them on sale. they've been so worth it...i love the quality and they've lasted me for years and i know they will last alot longer. i've also got some kat von d brushes, sephora brushes (and Marc Jacobs for Sephora brushes) that are all great quality. I even have some paint brushes.

in the end, it's personal preference. but make sure you can feel them so you know what you're getting.

edit: dont use makeup sponges either..they breed bacteria. for liquid foundation use MAC's 187 brush..or a similar brush to it...will give you an airbrushed finish. it's seriously the best brush ever...prevents you from overapplying so no matter how inexperienced you are your foundation will look flawless. great for darker blushes as well because it's harder to overapply.Advice on make-up brushes....?

I don't live in the UK, so I don't know what you have over there but I would reccomend ordering ELF(eyeslipsface.com over here) these brushes are EXTEREMELY CHEAP!!! Work great. Some you have to wash a few times to get them soft, but the eyeshadow brush is amazing. I don't really have much to suggest except for DONT USE YOUR FINGERS!!! PLEASEEEE!!! It transfers germs to your face, causing acne. Look on YouTube.com as a lot of makeup videos there talk about makeup brushes.
I use make-up sponges to apply foundation, they do absorb some of the product, but I find they produce the most natural finish, good for daytime make up.

The Bodyshop do some very good quality make-up brushes too.

I just ordered these online..i read some really good reviews on these..but after doing a little more research..i read/heard somewhere that after a couple months of use it gets your face scratchy and it looses its softness? Im more worried about the scratchy/itchy part because i have VERY sensitive skin..i had bare mineral brushes and they irritated my face like no other so i had to get new ones. If you have any info on the Italian Badger brushes please let me know!

How can make-up brushes be cleaned?

Cleaning your brushes:

1. Put a small amount of facial cleanser in the palm of your hand.

2. Wet the brush bristles with warm water.

3. Swirl the brush bristles in your palm, working the cleanser into the bristles.

4. Rinse the brush with warm water.

5. Repeat the 4 steps above until all makeup is out of the brush. (The rinse water will run clear when the makeup is out.)

6. Gently squeeze out excess water with a clean towel or paper towel.

7. Reshape the bristles and lay the brush flat on a clean towel or paper towels until dry.

You should clean your brushes a least once a week. Your makeup brushes pick up oils and bacteria with use. If you are using quality brushes and cleaning them on a regular basis, they will last a very long time.

Make sure to use a gentle, facial cleanser to wash your brushes with.

If you have cheap brushes they make fall apart or not do as well being washed. It is wise to invest a little bit in your makeup brushes. Make-up brushes need to be cleaned just the way hairbrushes need to be cleaned. Or they will provide a breeding ground for bacteria. Soak the brushes in tepid water for a few minutes. well if you wear foundation get the 190 foundation brush and for face and cheeks you can use the 192 the 209 is a liner brush and for a small shader brush get the 239 those are all synthetic brushes allot of their other brushes are made of goat hair but if you can go to mac store and they will be able to help you out if you are gonna order online you can go to website and click on live chat and they can assist you

NONE. They're all fake (as is 95% of the MAC on Ebay). Not only will you be supporting the counterfeiting industry and most likely buying a low quality product, these items are unregulated so you have no idea what dangerous chemicals they may have treated them with.

My advice would be to save up and get the real thing from a MAC store (it IS worth it, I promise) or visit a Cosmetic Company Outlet store. There are several in the UK and these are owned by Estee Lauder (MAC's parent company) so only sell genuine product, at a discount. Make-up Brushes?

I have seen a lot of tutorials on make-up, and most people use MAC brushes, or something similar.

Is the blending all in a good brush or what? I have a small fluffy brush (don't know what brand, but it was cheap), and I have a slanted shadow brush... the slanted one works pretty good, but the fluffy brush doesn't blend!

Is it really worth it to spend so much money on some good brushes? Because seriously... $30-40 for some eyeshadow brushes is a lot of money IMO.Make-up Brushes?
I prefer Sonia Kashuk (sp) brushes to apply my makeup. I use mineral makeup so a good brush is very important to me to apply just the right coverage.

I use a poofy brush to apply foundation %26amp; a smaller brush for blush. I got my brushes at Target %26amp; dont think they cost too much.

Just buy one SK brush %26amp; see if you like the way the bristles feel on your skin when you apply your makeup. If you dont like it ~~ Just take it back to the store %26amp; tell them its no good. They should refund your money.

I've had great luck with one premium brand (NARS) and one drugstore brand (Essence of Beauty, purchased at CVS). I've tried a lot of makeup brushes, and these are the best types I've found. The main problem I seem to have with brushes is the dropping or shedding of hairs. Not what you want when you're doing your makeup - little hairs all over your face!

For applying foundation (I use mineral powder), I use a #9 NARS brush. I've used mine every day for about a year and a half and it's still doing perfectly. Almost never any shedding. They run around $35 or $40 I believe, but I purchased it for roughly half that on ebay. It's been worth every penny.

For my liner and eyeshadow brushes, I've had excellent luck with the Essence of Beauty Brand. These are usually around $5 each, more for sets, and have done an excellent job as well.

Another good source is Bare Escentuals. I love their double-ended eyeshadow brush. These are mid-priced, and also available on ebay at times.

Essential eye brushes...ok, you need something large enough to brush eyeshadow over the entire lid, and then a smaller brush for putting color in the crease. These are the main two that you need, unless you are using mineral powdered eyeliner. In that case, you'll also need a thinner liner brush. An eyebrow brush is nice as well, although an old toothbrush will do the trick. Here's an example:

I have three face applicating brushes and three eye brushes from bare minerals eye and face starting kits; is it really necessary to buy new ones every so often? Why? If so, how long before I should toss my old ones?

As for cleaning- I hear antibacterial soap can destory the coating of makeup brushes, and to use shampoo instead. Any truth behind this?

Also, I'm kind of appauled that most makeup brushes are called ';goat hair';; I even saw one made of ';pony hair';; are these real animal hair, if so, can I opt for synthetic?

If you buy quality brushes you might not have to throw them out for years. If hair is falling out and they have lost their shape then you need to toss them.

Most companies make brush shampoo: use that instead of other products.

Stay with natural hair, it's kinder to your skin. You can get a spray brush cleaner from Ulta or at the good cosmetics counters. Or use a mild soap or face cleanser and warm water. The good quality ones should last a long time if you keep them clean.
actually cleaning then gets all the access residue off the brushes too so it does contribute to how good u apply the make up..to clean my brushes i use a brush cleanser by M.A.C..its specially made to clean the brushes...but you dont have to use that, you can rinse your brushes off with warm water too....as for when to toss ur old brushes out? i would say when you start to notice that it is losing alot of its hairs and applying your make-up with them just doesnt give the same results!

You don't need to buy new ones that much, just as long as you take care of them.

The whole washing part is really simple. Some makeup companies like Mac make a special soap for them. Also if you just leave them soaking in water than it will work also. You should do this everytime you are done using that brush.

Its true that some brushes are made of animal hair. A Mac representative told me that they use animal hair in their products but that they don't KILL that animal. It all depends on your morals, if you feel like using a brush that is made from some innocent animals hair then fine. I heard that animal hair brushes work better but i have never seen any difference between them and the synthetic brushes. They are simple to find, just look around and ask questions.

I live for eyeshadow brushes, the small one for the little details and the angled one is my favorite. I don't know what i'd do without them. I have a lot of lines and detail in my eyeshadow so they really help me out.

As for the whole germ thing, you should be concerned. Of course it is going to change the way that your eyeshadow looks because of the colors. If you don't fully wash your brushes then the colors just stay in the brush and mix, causing your eyeshadow to look like you just mixed a bunch of colors. It doesn't matter how easily you break out, you need to keep all that stuff out of your face. Eventually all that makeup and all those germs are just going to biuld up and when you do break out it will be 10 times worse
clean your make up brushes twice a month. to do this-

take a cup fil it with warm water. add a few drops of mild shampoo and dip your brushes in it and swirl in the warm water for a few minutes. then rinse the brushes in clean clear cool water and let them air dry on a soft towel. remember to store your brushes upright to preserve the bristles.

You should wash your brushes every 7-10days to maintain them....

MAC has a good brush cleaner...just get a cup place some cleaner in, then add a little warm water. Place brushes in...swish around a little...leave for a couple minutes...rinse then mold back to original shape.

If you take care of your brushes they should last you for quite sometime...considering how much they cost...this is a good thing!

...Regarding the materials...I'm not sure, but I'm sure that you can ask any make-up counter!

Do any of you ladies use the MAC buffer brush #182 for mineral or loose powder?? How do you guys like it? Does it blend the make up well. I am currently using the Kabuki brush that comes in my BE starters kit for my Bare minerals but i am looking to buy a better brush that blends better and is softer. I agree with 2D that the BE handy buki is better at applying the loose powder foundation than the Kabuki brush. MAC #182 is a similar brush, so you might want to try the BE handy buki first. I personally found that it works better. The other brushes that I find good at applying BE foundation or any loose powder for medium coverage is MAC #169 an angled brush, or the MAC creme foundation brush that looks like a flat version of the handy buki. Both brushes are very soft and picks up enough powder to give a good coverage.MAC make up brush?

I agreed to test it for her to give her my opinion. We began makeup at 5am for a Sunrise shot, I selected two girls and applied MAC makeup; and then I selected two other girls with similar skin types and applied Arbonne makeup and sent them out with a prayer. About 5hrs later, the girls returned the sun was high and with not enough hands to be on the beach to do touch ups I didn鈥檛 know what to expect. The girls wearing the MAC makeup, as I expected were dripping with sweat, as the foundation and powder are heavier for good coverage but does not allow the skin to breathe. The girls wearing Arbonne makeup to my surprise had this healthy glow and all there makeup was still in tact. I really thought that I had just done their makeup (WOW!!). I then continued to use only Arbonne鈥檚 makeup for the duration of the shoot. I called Shannon and said that I had just thrown out my $15,000 worth of MAC makeup, Arbonne鈥檚 makeup stood up better under the pressure of heat and inability to retouch each face throughout the course of a hectic 14 hour day

of shooting.

At this point Shannon shared so much more about the dangers that makeup held. I suffered a rude awakening, for years I was painting makeup on people that was filled with toxic chemicals and poisons (mineral oil, lanolin, paraffin wax, alcohol, and acetone) I was misled too. Then I learned about rendering plants- where a number of the cosmetic manufactures purchase materials derived from dead and diseased animals used in the formulation lipsticks and eye makeup. I WAS ANGRY.

I needed to speak out and educate people that makeup is no longer a beauty issue but a health issue and we must become label readers. Whatever we put on our skin ends up in our blood stream within seconds. I became an Independent Consultant and I spend each moment I can, even with a busy schedule, sharing with others the TRUTH. My journey continues.....

This is a pretty good set. I have a full set which is very similar, but mine are *fake* MAC. Don't trust ebay MAC! Doesn't bother me though, as I love my brushes. This is a trusted seller. She's panacea81 from youtube, and does tonnes of tutorials so you can see exactly how to put your brushes to good use!!! I would recommend a full set like this as you then have the freedom to do what you like with all the available tools, and Pro brushes seem to be good from what I've seen of them.

Google crown brushes they supply all sorts of brushes for the make up industry and you can buy them individually and make up your own set.

They sell everything including pouches rolls bags to keep them in.

I bought a set and as i was able to individually select the types i wanted i wasn;t wasting money on brushes in kits that i didn't want.

I bought 12 brushes in a zip up case for 拢30 which included p%26amp;p. The help line is fantastic and believe me you won't bother ever going anywhere else.

You can use a synthetic brush for both. You can use a foundation brush that looks like a traditional paint (artist) brush and brush it on, or use a duo-fiber brush that has long synthetic bristles, it sort of looks like a skunk. For cream eyeshadows you can use a synthetic brush made for cream shadows, or get one from the art supply store (golden taklon). You can also use your CLEAN fingers for either application, and a dampened sponge for foundation. Use whatever works for you, there are no right or wrong answers, just what looks great and is easy for you to use. :) What make up brush do you use for...?
I recommend a synthetic foundation brush for liquid foundation...the trouble with a sponge is that, first, a sponge soaks up more of your foundation than it actually gets on your face. Second, sponges carry bacteria and can spread it all over your face which is just gross, and will cause you to break out. You can use a small synthetic eye shadow brush for cream shadows, or your finger. As an artist, I personally prefer using my finger with cream shadows.
you can use a foundation brush for liquid foundation if you wish, but you don't have to. cream eyeshadow is customary to use your finger.
you use make up sponges for liquid foundation and you can use them for cream shadows as well, or just your finger or regular eye shadow q-tips
